The UK's techno scene would be a much poorer place if Aubrey hadn't taken to the decks when he was twelve. With a career spanning over two decades from his first residency at eighteen, he forms part of a critical axis that includes other legendary DJs such as Carl Cox, Grooverider, Mr C and Colin Dale that shaped the sound of the UK's place in dance music history. As well as running his own Solid Groove, Textures, Dark and Cheap Knob Gags imprints he's produced and remixed for quality technoid labels such as Russ Gabriel's Ferox, Leftfield's Offshoot, Skudge, Mosaic, Sublime, Komplex De Deep and Translucent plus many more. With a multifaceted range of tastes, from hiphop, jazz and funk through to acidhouse, Detroit techno and Chicago house, he's been a constant fixture at festivals and clubs across the world.
At the age of twelve he became an avid bedroom DJ which taught him the skills that have taken him through a successful and professional career spanning twenty-two years. From his first residency at eighteen, he soon found himself in London spinning next to Carl Cox, Groove Rider, Colin Dale, Mr. C and others at raves such as Energy and Raindance, and in clubs like The Astoria, The Gardening Club, The Pirate Club, The Marquee, Turnmills, Deep Space, Ministry Of Sound, Mr. C’s Release parties and residency for Fantasy FM.
With his first love as a teenager, hiphop, moving quickly onto the emerging acid-house scene and then to the house and techno of the Detroit/Chicago/New York trinity, and due to working in record shops and closely with distributors, he has superb and deep knowledge of all three pivotal genres that have shaped where we are now musically. His other big interests are jazz, soul, funk and fusion, collecting a superb range of all genres that flavour his DJ sets and production influences.
Starting in 1990 recording for Sheffield label Ozone records under the name of Panic with a release called Voices Of Energy, which was then licensed to Buzz in Belgium, Buzz 001, Buzz then went on to release classics by Carl Craig and Derrick May. He set up his own label in the same year, Solid Groove Records. The label had 30 vinyl releases over thirteen years and tracks were licensed by luminaries such as Derrick May, Terry Francis, Pete Tong, Adam X, and Carl Cox. On top of Solid Groove he ran three other labels, Textures, Dark and Cheap Knob Gags and he has recorded for labels such as Skudge, Komplex De Deep, Mowar, Sublime, The End, Ferox, Mosaic, Reel, Intec, as well as an LP and three EPs for Leftfield's label Offshoot. As his labels and productions became more widely known he started touring the world and can count places like The End (UK), Space (Ibiza), Ten Days Of Techno (Belgium), Outergaze (Tokyo), The Moog (Spain), Lov E & Bunker (Brazil), Loft & Cocoon (Switzerland), Pop Com (Germany) and Sikamecanico (Norway) as places he has stormed, along with many other venues and festivals in Asia, Europe and South America.
